Mark Gardner is an artist working in oil and pastel. Born in Oregon to a so-called “ax man”, it’s understandable that the rugged Oregon Coast, mountains and forests are one of his favorite places to paint.
He spent most of his life working in the woods. After an accident at age sixteen, he started to draw. Then, he entered the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. He also studied at Carnegie Mellon and the Art Students League in New York City.
His focus is on creation – mainly landscapes. He always paints from life, en Plein air. The bulk of his work is nature landscapes, but he will deviate from this subject matter from time to time. Both the Pacific Northwest and his current surroundings in Western Pennsylvania influence his work.
His time working in the lumber industry and appreciation for the outdoors is reflected in his work, particularly his woodland scenes.

Mark has exhibited regionally at Merrick Art Gallery, The Butler Institute, and The Westmoreland Museum of American Art. His work has been collected internationally, including patrons in Africa and Central America.
